NMC Managing Director Fleetwood Haiya has announced that Nyasa Manufacturing Company Limited is joining the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic by making a significant donation to support frontline workers in Malawi. Haiya expressed the company’s sense of duty to help protect its customers and the nation as a whole from the devastating effects of the pandemic.
“We were prompted to act by the recent address of the state president,” said Haiya. “COVID-19 is becoming more and more devastating, and the numbers of affected people are hitting close to home. As a company that manufactures products that are beloved by people and sponsors Nyasa Big Bullets, which is a team that belongs to the people, we felt that we had to do something to help protect our frontline workers in the fight against COVID-19.”
The donation, worth K25 million, was warmly welcomed by Blantyre District Medical Officer Dr. Mirium Nyasulu, who noted that it will help alleviate some of the challenges faced by frontline workers. “We really needed this support,” said Nyasulu. “As the disease continues to spread, we require more support like this. We urge other well-wishers to follow this example and donate towards our urgent need for RDT test kits and tents to decongest Kameza Isolation Center.”
This donation by NMC serves as a reminder of the importance of collective action in the fight against COVID-19, and it is hoped that other companies and individuals will follow suit in supporting the efforts of frontline workers.
